Wanted: Confident Teachers with a Purpose

Katherine Clay

Educational Resource Center, San Mateo County Office of Education, Redwood City, Calif

Teachers do their students a major disservice by not demanding the achievement of precise skills, ad monishes this writer. She chides educators who claim to be seeking the larger, more important ideas and in so doing permit the details of the subject to pass unlearned. Administrators, she urges, must find teachers who know what to teach, how to teach, and how to evaluate what has been taught.
