Academic Achievement and the Need for a Comprehensive, Developmental Music CurriculumRancocas Valley Regional High School in Mieount Holly, N.J.jponter{at}rancocasvalley.k12.nj.us In our public schools, music is considered to be an "activity" on the periphery of the curriculum, taking a back seat to the serious subjects required to educate our youth. Far from being a peripheral activity offered to a few "talented" students with the inclination to engage in extra enrichment programs, however, music should be considered as fundamental to the curriculum as mathematics and reading.
